Concept of Pictures Representing ObjectsYou can help your toddler develop the concept of pictures representing objects by tracing around the 3-D puzzle forms and other objects. The child will be interested in watching you draw the shapes and then color (or scribble) the drawings. Compare the drawings and the 3-D shapes. Show the child that the puzzle pieces and other objects can be placed on top of the picture of the shape. Now draw these pictures also smaller, then again smaller so the child learns that the name can be the same although the size varies. This activity prepares your child to look at the small symbols on the vision tests.
